Wont be happing for a while but just looking for Ideas..

Not sure whether to use my head and buy a Diesel for good milage as I will be back and forwards from the Army base most Weekends or use my heart and buy a nice fun Petrol?

There's so much choice and I'm really not sure? Was looking at A3 1.8t's andthen that took me to the Seat Leon Cupra R's, was also looking at Astra Coupes?

What about the Golf GT Tdi? Come In 150bhp and bags of torque but should still return good mpg?

The 150 is rather rare, and thus overpriced. Id follow your heart and go for petrol, the Cupra R you mentioned would definatley on my shortlist

Not sure how many a year but the running costs of a Diesel should be alot cheaper than a Cupra?

Would there be much difference between a Cupra 180bhp, Golf Gt tdi 130 mapped to 180bhp and the Cupra r?

I know the Cupra R has Brembo's and other goodies but not sure If It's worth the extra money?

If you are going to map the diesel then whyu wouldnt you map the petrol? You would be looking at at about 250 bhp from the Cupra R I would have thought

Mondeo ST 220?
BMW 330ci?
Alfa GT 1.9 JTD?
Alfa 156 GTA?
Clio 182?
Fabia vRS?
Octavia vRS?
RX-8?

Then there are all the Jap turbos you could have for under 6k.

Another vote for Octavia vRS here, an early V2 slightly high miler would fit in your budget in either petrol or diesel. Petrol 200bhp, diesel 170bhp, both can be mapped.

I'll explain my situation, I'm not very old and want something nice once I get Into the Army. I will be taking out a loan after thinking hard about it and as I'm In a secure Job It seems pretty safe. Not sure how much I want to take out I'm just looking about to keep my options open!

Obviously any 'fast' Car Is going to be alot to Insure! The Mr2's are cheaper to buy than others I've been looking at but more to Insure so would probably come to the same figure total. I've always liked Mr2's so might look Into them as they've loads of tuning potential!

Alot of you will say that I'll end up killing myself In something that fast due to not much Driving experience but aslong as I don't drive like a tt I should be fine, yes?

I hate to say it, but an EP3 CTR is fantastic fun. Keep the revs up and you'll trouble all manner of cars!plus you can rev the nuts off it all day long and it will still work in the morning.

also looking at 30mpg aswell if you take it easy.

I just spent over your budget and have a mk4 golf gti 150bhp, had remap hyflow cat miltek stystem, koni suspension, front anti roll bar, and now has just under 250bhp great fun, its the way the gti should have come out the factory! still return over 30mpgs,
Sorry this is the 1.8T not the diesel, also have the 18inch R32 alloys to help handle the power!

Fabia vRS if you're going for economy fun, or some other VW group car with a similar engine.
