Find me an Audi A3 (or sim'lar) for £1000
Discussion
Hi guys
My requirements now stretch to replacing my Rover 600 shed for a slightly nicer shed.
Could you recommend a good Audi A3 for sale for £1000 or a car similar to that quality?
The Rover has been fantastic and it's Honda engine super reliable, but it's too large for lumbering around London now.
Thanks!

A Rover 600 too large?
You what?
This.You what?
If you think that a Rover 600 is too big for London roads you simply shouldn't be driving.
All used cars at this end of the price bracket are going to be either complete dogs or something that most people don't want (like a Rover 600), so good luck getting a relatively desirable car that doesn't have a wagging tail and floppy ears for £1,000.
Small cars ie hatchback are very popular so have mass appeal and you get less for your money.
For £1k i'd be looking at
Mk3 Golf Gti
Mk4 Golf 2.3 V5 early 150bhp (less popular and cheaper)
Mazda 323
you're going to struggle on small reliable cars for less than a grand unless we are talking old micra or yaris

Gosh, I love a good spot of generalisation. Do you live and park around London's streets on a regular basis? To everyone else, thanks for the suggestions, I know this isn't easy! I've been seeing some cars at this level and there seems to be some amount of choice but you need to be lucky!

As a matter of fact, yes, I do.A Rover 600 is a large(r) car and does not easily fit into the majority of spaces in my neck of the woods and that is why I am changing.
Having a suitable car in London is not just about driving it. It's also about parking it easily when a space is available, but then, as a resident you already knew that right?

Can I ask, because I've always wondered, what's so great about the A3? They've always just seemed like an overpriced Golf-in-a-frock to me.
Absolutely nothing, ive had 2 A3s and neither lasted longer than a fortnight, i hated both. On the otherhand though i do like a Golf, nicer cars IMO and far better value for money
Back on topic, i would probably look for a MK3 Golf too
I've lived in cities in streets with on street residents parking before and I can empathise with the OP. It's not a case of how good or bad a driver you are, small cars squeeze into small spaces, bigger cars often cannot. Simple.
Personally I'd consider a base model C1 or similar on one of those ~£100pm lease deals.
