My local pub organises a St George's day parade and festival every year. Every year it has been a fun, friendly, family orientated event that raises money for charity - mainly the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes.

This year the whole event was hijacked and ruined by the EDL. They arrived early. They got pissed - with booze they hadn't bought at the pub. They chanted football and racist slogans throughout the simple ceremony that we hold. They stood in the road, blocking the traffic. Then they kicked off with police.

The police behaved with admirable restraint and professionalism and contained them, arresting a few, but the whole evening was cut short and I doubt very much we'll ever be allowed to hold a similar event again.

So, EDL, well done you cluster of st thick, chavvy, spunk encrusted love-socks. You did a fantastic job of 'defending the English' last night. I hope each and every one of you gets vigorouslyly VBRJd by a gang of big, black, muslim, bogus-asylum seeking, illegal immigrants. s, the fking lot of you.

We later heard that they attempted a similar stunt in Central London, but it was too big an event to dominate. Don't know about the accuracy of that. A few friends checked their website last night and it appeared that the whiole thing was pre-planned. That page has now been pulled.

Really sorry to hear that mate frown

As I mentioned on the other thread, the EDL are just football hooligans re-branded in response to the restrictions placed to stop trouble at matches.

No doubt there will be some on here who choose to defend them though rolleyes

The EDL attract the "wrong type" of person to a lot of their demos.

You only have to spend 5 minutes on the forums of the EDL to realise that the real members, who have genuine concerns in relation to the influence of Islam on the country, are law abiding citizens - just like you or I. They make it quite clear that racist chants etc will not be tolerated at the demos and people that do make racist chants are dealt with by the travelling stewards who are all EDL members themselves.

I take it you've never been to one of their demos, so before you decide to mess your knickers over a group of lads purporting to be EDL take a broader look at things and don't believe everything you see on the fking BBC.

So what you're saying is that we should ignore the actions of the minority, because the majority of EDL members are law abiding peaceful citizens?

I see what you did there, but the EDL are not protesting all Islam, just extremist Islam. Either way, the EDL and the UAF idiots deserve each other.

The same day as some Muslim group is having a counter march. Should be amusing to watch.

I dont recall ever seeing such statements!
Guam,

I've seen several pieces on their website where they are asking the membership to behave themselves. These normally go out before a planned demo. I agree they need to sort out the hooligan element and they need to do this themselves. However, if their "stated" position on extremist Islam is taken at face value, then the majority of PHers of all ethnicities and faiths should be joining them including moderate Muslims.

Mind you I have never seen labour, conservative or lib dem rallies kick off into violence come to that!

Given those three have vast membership compared to these "fringe" players you would think maintaining control for the EDL should be a doddle no?

What has this got to do with the BBC? I am reporting the evidence of my own eyes. I am also reporting the evidence of someone I know, and have no reason to doubt, who saw a page on their website where they planned to take over six seperate St George's day events that had nothing to do with them. Regardless of what the leaders say, an organisation is made up of its members. If the membership constantly need to be reminded to behave themselves, then that speaks volumes about them.

And I'm 'messing my knickers' at a years work and a family event ruined by EDL members or supporters, a great many of whom were wearing EDL T-shirts. Thank you for trivialising that.

I drove past a protest in Brighton earlier. I thought it was the EDL, but apparently it was March For England, who look remarkably like the EDL. Still, I'm sure that the dozens of police there were pleased to get a bit of overtime.
