As far as I'm aware 05 was the first f430 plate in the UK. 04/54 would probably be pre-production.

i thought that because i saw what i think was an f430 convertible in hythe that was 54 plate but a friend of mine on here thinks it wasnt.

Wikipedia says: "right-hand drive sales did not start until Spring 2005"

And were that true there might be a handful of 54 plate RHD cars.

I don't think there will have been a 54 spider though, didn't those come slightly later?
