Im early 20's, had an old banger for a while and think I need an upgrade. Can't really be above 1.8 because of insurance. Any ideas?

A mint Clio Williams and spend the spare cash on a track day special .

Leon Cupra they have a 1.8 ?

Honda integra the original one , 1.8 litre with a fizzing vtec.

The teg can be bought for 4 grand , leaves 4 grand to cover the thing.

Lotus Elise's are 1.8s.....

But all that goes to show is that the engine size isn't what you need to worry about with insurance. Just pick a few different cars and run them through an online insurance quote and get an idea for what might be affordable. Sometimes bigger cars (old BMW's, Mercs, Volvos etc) come in at suprisingly cheap levels despite big engines.

+1. Use something like Confused.com so that your details are saved and you only have to change the car make / model / reg each time for a new quote.

MR2, MKII. Good fun, T-Bar (if you get the right one of course!), nice to drive, reasonable fuel economy etc and air con/electrics.
