Just saw on the news last night that Germany suggested that Greece should possibly be kicked out of the Eurozone! I thought that the point of the Euro was to unite the European nations and to become one big economic force? If the countries with week economies are kicked out they might as well all go back to their old currencies!

Seems the CSU party in Bavaria are suggesting this - I'm not sure how relevant they are (as in I don't know German politics!)

If I remember from the mists of time, wasn't it a requirement of Euro membership to have a country's economy balanced between a set of boundaries for things like inflation, debt etc.

If the Euro as a currency becomes a bail out, welfare fund of the rich propping up the poor (even more so than the EU is now) - then it can only devalue itself next to US$ as it loses it's strength where the total is greater than the sum of the parts.

It is one of those things which seems like a good idea but once your country starts losing money to pay for other countries to get richer, and your population have their Govt services reduced, then suddenly just giving money away doesn't seem to good (this matter being amplified if for example, like in the UK, we are coming to an Election and/or a recession) the idea starts to lose appeal.
