Thanks for the help guys, I have got the PC working with the wireless router and am also inputting this with the lap top in the lounge, so pretty well ch***ed.
Just one problem, can't seem to communicate with the remote printer. I have tried the add printer route, network printer> browse to a printer, this gives me two options
microsoft windows network
workgroup
selecting anyone of these I get "you need to specify a valid printer name"
typing either the brother mfc or the epson photo printer gets "cannot connect to the printer"
Is there a special way of specifying the printer or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely.
Any help appreciated.
Graham.

You probably need to set it as a local printer and then add a new "Standard IP" Port with the IP address of your wireless printer

Is the printer wireless, or physically connected to your desktop PC?

The printer is connected to the desk top PC by a usb cable connection.

Is it shared? If not, the desktop won't show up in the add printer/network wizard on the laptop.

The desktop will need to be switchedon and, IIRC, logged in to Windows before you'll be able to connect to it from the laptop.
