Hi Guys,

Anyone on here had some work done who has a pearl, balloon white Lambo?

I'm having my bonnet done as it is chipped and has a small dent from a large stone but my sprayer simply can't get it to match. Has now tried a different paint supplier with ICI and it's better but is still too white compared the the rest of the car. Hard to explain but it's more white and silvery as opposed to almost a gold tinge.

it's almost like it doesn't have enough of the pearl layer on, but it has has 3 coats I understand.

any help much appreciated....

Cheers,
Chris

Sorry to say but the chances of painting the bonnet alone and getting it to match are slim.

This would be the case for most metallic colours, let alone a 3-layer pearl.

The likelihood is that you'll need to paint the entire front end and blow the pearl into the doors to 'lose' the change in pearl effect from the original panels to the new ones.

Painting one panel amid three original ones it will look a completely different colour. The pearl layer doesn't lie the same on the new panel as it does on the old ones.

Thanks for the replies guys....

Wasn't particularly keen on losing so much of the original paint as it was quite a minor chip/dent, but enough to warrant the whole panel. But this is the way it is starting to look unfortunately...

Can't say I totally agree on the several panels theory as I've had metallics done on single panels, which wasn't just a locallised colour repair, before and it has matched perfectly, but do understand where you are coming from.

I was more wondering if the Lambo factory sprayed the cars in a specific way, especially the pearl layer and how many coats, which direction etc..etc....

As the actual colour does seem to match, if there is more of it..... And it is only marginally out....

Cheers,
Chris

I had 3 layer white on my previous 430 and it had a bloom in the paint on the bonnet when new so it was repainted under warranty. The bloom was probabably around 8" wide by 4" deep at it's widest point. The bodyshop had to paint the front bumper, bonnet, both front wings, both doors and blend the colour into the rear wings as LamboBrum said. It was a nightmare job I believe and took a huge amount of hours to get right. The finish was excellent though and actually better than the original paint.
