Hi all
the 52 plate Cooper PAS pump motor is whining a lot & not switching off when the wheel is centred (it used to for the first 7 years). As I see it, if the pump fails then it loses all assistance & becomes rubbish to drive.. If not dangerous.

Are BMW still responsible for this as a safety related item, even out of warranty? has anyone else had similar problems, and how did you get it fixed / how much to fix?

regards
Carl

IIRC there are lots of posts about this problem in the MINI section of PH.

oops, I will take a wander around there. I set my prefs for only a limited number of forum(s) so haven't see how many there are now. Cheers.

Probably the most common item on MINIs, it's not that expensive to fix IIRC as they're electric and a swap out item.
Have a look on www.mini2.com and www.minitorque.com for prices it's bound to be on there.

It'll be the Steering angle sensor or the signal wires, always on will be the failure mode so you have assistance.

Did they recall for this - fire related?

may be worth a call to your local BMW dealer to see it you are entitled to any recall work.
