Rights to Artwork, advice please

My wife designed a logo for a property company a few years back, while she was working as a Graphic Designer for a printing firm. Her boss asked her to do this for his friend, the boss of the property company, as a favour and no fee was charged.

My question is, who owns the rights to the designs? I'm guessing the property company, but it is just a guess.

If she did it in the course of her employment then her employer will own the design. This is unless her employer had an agreement with the company to licence/sell the design to them (which they probably did). Either way she does not own the design.
