Sad Day Aston Martin Racedriver Leo Löwenstein died

Yesterday the Aston-Martin Racedriver Leo Löwenstein died at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
It was a VLN endurancerace and he was 43 years old.
He was a famous German Winemaker.
This morning at a church servie cardinal Lehman form Mainz told us the sad news.
My regrets are with his family.

A tragedy, and a reminder that, despite the ease with which drivers are seen regularly to extract themselves from badly-damaged crashed cars, there are some accidents from which escape is difficult or even impossible.
Whilst condolensences are due to Lowenstein's family, it is equally to be hoped that an accident like this will not trigger some sort knee-jerk reaction in order to curtail activities on the Nordschleife.

It is unlikley this tragic incident will effect the Nordschliefe, given the usual toll of Motorcyclists during TF and the commercialism in the area that increases by the day.
However, it will be a significant reminder to anyone racing or driving for pleasure, of the dangers inherent in driving at this most wonderfull place.
Bear in mind that this event was fully marshalled by the the most impressive teams of experienced, local and aware individuals and still this tragedy occured.
TF laps at a fast speed seem somehow less safe.
I send my sincere condolences to Leo's family and team.

I agree, it shouldn't have an effect on the circuit itself. Drivers should be aware of and assess the risks themselves and make their own choices.
I personally choose not to race/drive on the Nordschleife because of the risk, but I would never begrudge someone their opportunity to race it.

What a terrible accident... I was listening to the first few laps of the race on the VLN site's webcast, but had to go out. I'm sort of relieved that I missed hearing it live. 
We used to race against him in the SP6 class some years ago. A very fair and clean driver with a good reputation.
I sincerely hope his family can come to terms with it in time.
