I have decided the Chimaera 450 of three years plus is due for a change. Tried a Tuscan, love the look but did not feel happy in the driving seat; so it's a T350. I have started to look but there are not many up for sale, less if you are looking for a T. This is the question has anyone gone from a soft top to a C or should I hold out for the right T?

I went from a Chimaera to a T350T. I don't have the roof panels off that often but when I do it is great. If you're looking for the full open experience then try a Tamora to be sure a T350 is for you.

Apart from the roof panels the targa vs coupe decision is just down to taste (or lack of smile ).

If the Tamora looked more like the T350 from the back, it would be no contest. I just can't take to the back of the Tamora!

I have had all three in last 3 years first was a beautiful spectraflair silver T350T then went to a Chim 450 now i have a Tam and i have to say ,yes Craig (of TrackVRoad fame) i can hear u telling me so. That the Tam is the best drivers car of them all. Well apart from her behind as u say ,it does kinda grow less grotesque and the roof off is so much better than the T or the chim (pram hood effect spoilt Chim ).My Tam really has grown on me so much. Have a drive in them both in hot weather, If like me u have had a lifetime in droptops the Tam wins hands down.

Having owned both a T & C I would say its all down to choice, like the quietness of my current C but did enjoy the roof off moments with the T, fit is critical though and get one that doesn't fit right and it can be a bad exepriance over 85 ish and sounds like the man upsatirs is trying to get in.

Either way its sleek roof or carbon panels removed and bald spot tanning, the choice is yours! If I had to be pushed for a choice it would be the C or a full blown soft top IMHO.

I can also highly recommend the Tamora after being a new owner for a month and coming from a Cerb. It's surprising what a work of automotive art it looks in the flesh compared to pictures, both front and back. You'll probably drive faster with the T350 due to the hard top :-)

I've got a T having initially been adament I wanted a C. Tales of wind noise and leaks had initially put me off. However, if you get the later roof fitments (front prongs) and ensure they're seated properly when you put them on then this should not be a problem. I've had my car up to silly speeds and not suffered any wind noise from the roof.
When the panels are off it really does feel like a full open top - again I was worried it'd just feel like a large sunroof but this really isn't the case.
A c also felt more claustophobic inside, especially with a dark interior. If I were looking again for me it'd be a targa everytime!

Personally i prefer the look of the C, hence why i bought one over a T. The lines just look a bit sleeker IMHO.

Would consider a Tam if you want the true drop top experience. Keep looking at them, they get much better looking over time.

the 'T' was designed for the regular TVR customers.

the 'C' was introduced for his wife.

T. C just makes it look like you couldn't afford a Sagaris.

I'm with stim on this one. Fell in love with the shape of the T350 and couldn't help but feel that the roof panels of the T spoil the flowing lines of what is a truly beautiful car. I looked at both and chose the C for purely aesthetic reasons - as a caveat I've never really 'got' the whole convertible thing anyway!

As for the previous comment along the lines of 'couldn't afford a Sagaris' that's true in my case unfortunately, but I'll rise to the bait and say that comment could be levelled at any T350 owner whether it's a T or a C!

How many additional Sagarii would have been sold if they offered a convertible or targa version?

True for me as well smile I also went ahead and bought the first T350 I saw. Having done exactly the same with my previous Griff. Both turned out to be absolute crackers but on the whole, do NOT rely on me for purchasing advice!

As a slightly more sensible point to contribute; while there is concern about the sealing of the roof panels, it's much better in the late 2004 cars onward. Any maintenance they need will be maintenance I guess you'll otherwise spend on perfecting the A/C in a coupe. I'm open to correction, but I imagine that in the Cs, working A/C is a must. Mine is a bit pitiful but the roof panels are largely out May-October so it doesn't matter. Just another thought. Also, Ts are (?4x) rarer so since you'll be looking for what you consider mechanical perfection, the chances of that also being a Targa are slimmer. You'll regret buying something mechanically unsound much more than a body style.

Aircon should be nice and chilly - I have to turn ours off after a while as it gets too cold. (FYI the Tamora/T350/Sagaris have no ability to mix the air - you get conditioned air from some vents and the normal cold/warm/hot air from other vents).

There are only so many things to look at to get the aircon working well - if you want it working properly I suggest trying a different garage (not because yours may be bad, but because others will possibly have other ideas to make it work better).

The only thing that I find a little annoying is that on a really hot day on a long trip with the roof on the passenger gets more cooling than the driver due to the layout of the vents, but its still not a major issue.
