I'm looking for a CHEAP small van, I'm thinking Corsa Combo, Astra van, Escort van etc.

So which is likely to be the most reliable for under a grand?

Any other pointers greatly appreciated, I'm hoping to find something on ebay with at least 10 months T&T.

Either Escort or VW Caddy/Seat Inca, Avoid at all costs a Vauxhall, they are utter crap in comparison to an Escort or a Caddy as far as reliability is concerned.

Just so you know the Caddy and Inca are the same van, with different badges and bumpers

Avoid the combo. I had and ex british gas one on a 53 plate with 60k. Tracking went every few months, gear linkage was plastic and kept popping off, gearbox blew up at 1900 hours in grantham (I was on my home to harlow) and then with 80k on the clock the diesel pump ECU packed up and that cost a grand to replace.

Get an escort, cheap and cheerfull, cheap to buy, cheap to fix.

Hmm..odd the Combo haters come out.

An old customer of ours had a mixed fleet of VW Caddy/SEAT Inca, Combos and Renault Kangoos. The VW/SEAT were OK when they worked, dealers were rubbish. The Renaults were, well, Renaults. When the fleet was replaced they got a full set of Vauxhalls. We bought one of the Combos, got it for next to nothing, and 2 years later it's been totally reliable, only needing brakes and servicing. 4 years old with 110k on the clock now.

I should perhaps point out that it'll only be doing about 3000 miles per year!

How often will you be using it?
Would it be cheaper to hire (OK so it's less PH)

I want to be able to jump in it and use it when needed, even if that's at 6PM on a Sunday evening - So hiring isnt really an option.

Plus the local hire place (Enterprise) only have larger transit type vans
