Why are more and more cars, espically supercars, now coming with black rims if the car is white or a grpahite colour if the car is another colour?

It seems that the normal silver rims are going out of fashion.

When it came to refurbing my wheels I struggled on the choice of colour.
I opted for a bit of a combo. smile

I don't think it's just dark colours we're seeing more of these days. A few friends of mine have some very brightly coloured wheels. Think red and green. yuck

i quite like black/dark coloured alloys. makes a car look meaner and can often break up a plain shape of some cars.

Black wheels are becoming ever more popular as is matte black and very shiny/garish paintjobs.

But (a question to all here) what were the first cars which really set the trend off - I mean some cars may have had them before but was it certain cars which made people copy this

The problem with completely black wheels is that they just dissapear in wheel arches.

They look horrid.

If ever a fashion is sure to go out of fashion, that's the one......along with twin "GT stripes" which now seem to appear on almost any comedy vehicle.

Was it not the 996 GT3 that set off the coloured trend? Or possibly another Porsche before this?

Rims above look sweet!

It'll be here to stay, for years everyone has gone for silver as they just wanted to look like metal/alloy.
now that bond has been broken, so people are free to pic any colour they like

I had anthracite wheels on my 18" wheels for the M3..

And I had them on my E91 touring too, just makes a change....

I like anthracite, but black is too dark, always makes the tires look really dirty.
