Adjustable front shocks
Discussion
My car is fitted with Nitron adjustable front and rear. I am not happy about how the front shocks are fitted to the lower wishbone. A mod has been done but I would like it to be stronger/different.

The bracket looks like the above with the bolt holding the bottom of the shock going horizontal through the two uprights and two bolts holding it underneath the lower wishbone. Seems all the strength is on 2 bolts. Anyone got any suggestions or pictures of what theirs is like. My idea bank seems to be shut

Have a look at my mod on this link - which is much stronger as it uses the mass of the lower wishbone to absorb the impact plus it has been welded underneath to supplement the original fabrication.

Don't think you would need to change anything for just an adjustable shock but changing to coil overs well that's another story ..
So - which is it ?
Sorry, I should have been clearer. I have Nitron coil overs all round. When I got the car last week, the ride was solid and you could feel every bump in the road. I have softened them off and raised the height a bit. Now It is a lot nicer ride.So - which is it ?
It has a similar mod to this for the top mount, picture borrowed from GV's link, cheers
But the bottom mount has the bracket I have drawn bolted underneath the lower wishbone. I think the easiest solution is to weld a plate underneath it as well.
GV, I thought this mod would have weakened the wishbone too much
Or did you build up the sides again with metal plate. At least that has given me an idea, Thanks TT
Although I chopped out the sides to fit the bar and brackets it's welded on the sides and underneath the wishbone and is very solid. You would think that the wishbone would fold inwards where it has been cut but there is a 20mm solid steel bar welded in both sides to prevent that plus the brackets are welded on the base of the wishbone where they protrude slightly. This makes the whole structure solid as one unit. On top of that, there are welds in place to support the original base of the wisbone.
I was forced into the mod through having the experience of brackets failing that were previously bolted in using the old shock mounts. There is a massive difference and a great deal more peace of mind knowing that it is unlikely to fail under load.

Well I have been out in the garage practicing my MiG welding. Haven't done any for a couple of years but managed to get a couple of good seems going. Ground them down and they look good. So i will be welding plates on the bottom of the wishbones tomorrow as a safety measure (read, proper job, as apposed to the not so clever one now). As you have said GV, having it as piece of mind is real important.
Having the front suspension held together on 2 8mm bolts does not make me happy at all

Hi guys, I was going to weld a plate on the bottom also then use four bolts to attach a bracket as pictured, that should easily be strong enough, the only problemim having is finding some shocks and springs to fit, anyone got any part numbers, shock and spring lengths? I was considering fitting triumph gt6/vitesse spax shocks which are similar length and fitting to the standard ones but then have an adjustable platform, the spring would then locate as per the rears, But I would prefer coilovers I just seem to be having a problem getting any one to sell me some.
All the best

The racers used this mod, but after a few races the top mounts got ripped out, so they added a cross brace to like to too side together, to help strengthen the top mounts. It may not be a problem on a road car, but it's worth checking often for cracks. But thought I'd pass this info on.
