Uh oh, drivetrain problems...

Starting from Saturday I am getting a really horrible squealing / squeaking noise during low speed maneuvering and at a standstill. I initially thought (hoped maybe?) that it was one of the pulleys, but paying a little more attention on the drive to and from Chatsworth it seems it only actually happens when the clutch is depressed - push in, give it a secon or two and the noise starts. Engage gear and pull away and that's when it's at it's worst. Car drives fine and the box shifts OK too, but I'm sure there was a slight rumble when moving felt through the centre tunnel. I'm about to call my local Indie now, but what's the concencus here? Release bearing? Knackered box?
Either way I can feel its expensive

Ant, is it replaceable with the box in situ?

you`ll have to remove the gearbox as the release bearing slides along the input shaft of the gearbox, that fits into the back of the crankshaft.

Thanks Clive. I had a bit of a search just after I posted and found that answer along with some other useful info. I was hoping for no big bills this year too! Oh well, with the sprints / hill climbs and track days it would have needed a new clutch sooner or later so may as well do it now.

Yeah, I reckon yours is cursed and passed it on at Cosford - it was knackered after that!

Well mine has had another clutch now as the last one was the wrong one, hopefully thats it now......

It's booked in for mid May. Not looking forward to the bill though, I had that money planned for other things!
