Okay, so my friend (no, I do aaactually mean my friend here) reckons he got caught speeding a couple of times when driving though France last week.

Does anyone know if points carry over to his UK licence?

David

PS. Apologies for not searching this, gotta get back to cramming for Uni exams smile

I don't think points will be applied, just a "fine"

I got a fine last year while working in France. Didn't go on my licence.

My parents have been living in france for nearly two years now using english cars on english plates (your not meant to but you can get round it). Anyway my dad has been caught speeding 3 times in the two years and other than two of the three times being marched down to the nearest cashpoint to pay a small fine when he got caught by cars at the side of the road nothing has happened to his licence and it is to our knowledge that nothing ever will.

My brother has been caught out there too, no points or anything and even managed to haggle the old gendarme down to just a 11 euro fine!

If he was just flashed by cameras dont worry about it, nothing ever happens.

The French apparently asked the British govt to release details to them of UK drivers who get flashed so that they could send fines/points etc. But the British govt, in a rare moment of sense, apparently pointed out that unless the French govt was prepared to do likewise for French drivers caught in the UK (which it wasn't), then the French could whistle in the wind for the details!

In Northern Ireland if you get caught speeding across the border; in the republic.. You get the fine and the points or whatever, but they don't affect your UK licence.. A ghost southern licence is created and the points go onto it..

You may be correct, but I am not sure about that.
The DVLA give out RK's details to some Belgian authorities, who send demands (in French) for penalty payments to RKs in UK.

Perhaps the Belgians reciprocate?

Must be something new in any event, as last time I was done for speeding in Europe was in Belgium. Was done for doing 126kph in a 120kph zone. I was not terribly amused since I thought I was being relatively law-abiding compared to zillions of Belgian-registered A8s and X5s that were whipping past at considerably higher speed. The policeman's explanation was that the Belgian speeders all get photos in the post whereas to get me, they had to actually stop me.
