It often confounds me how some people managed to persuade an examiner to give them a green light to drive on public roads.

The other week I was on the M4 when I was over taken by an fully laiden estate doing about 80 when I had to do a double take. The car was leaning a bit onto it near side front to which I was stunned to find was a space saver!!

Now unless they've come leaps and bounds in terms of performance, I was under the impression they are only good for 40mph and a 40 mile range. And this moron is driving twice that speed and has got a car filled to the brim of st.

I was pissed off with the fact that they obviously valued getting where they were going over other peoples lives aswell as there own...

Anyone else with other horror stories?

I wouldn't have one on the front but they're not that bad. I had one on a nearside rear for about 150 miles and I stuck below 70.

Gave comedy lift off oversteer on roundabouts mind you... all the lettering was scrubbed off by the time I got a new tyre

I know there are bound to be, I was just iviting everyone to put their stories forward. What's wrong with that?

Trolling is at the very least worse than stating the obvious.

I just checked for general advice on space saver tyres and it was that you shouldn't travel over 50mph and that they are only good for short distances.
I'm pretty sure 150 miles isn't considered a short distance.

Unfortunately I couldn't find a tyre fitter that was open on a Sunday night, 80 miles from where I live. I then decided to drive the short distance to work until the end of the week as I work a half day on Friday. I've just checked and somehow the world hasn't exploded in the 6 months since I replaced the damaged tyre.

I stuck at a speed I was comfortable with (i.e. not getting mobbed by trucks), I maintained my awareness of the limitations of the tyre, and bar one or two fairly tame low speed roundabout exploits, I was very sensible.

I suspect that most drivers would pay less attention to a sticker saying 'Drive sensibly whilst using a space saver' than they do of the '50 mph danger you will die' jobbie you usually see.

Volvo? What no trailer on the back?

Worse one I saw was the A12 heading towards Colchester. The small lorry (Transit) had on the back a fairly new RR Sport and they were hammering it in the outside lane.
The 4x4 was getting bounced all over the trailer bed as they had not tethered it down that well. The rear tyre was inches from the side.

Shocking driving. And to make it worse they overtook a Police car like this. I really expected them to get a pull!

Rush hour last week was following an old biddy in a mk1 Polo. We were approaching a roundabout in the left lane, which is left turn only. She realises she's in the wrong lane so indicates right and starts to pull across, but of course there's a car in the way. She just misses it and pulls back left. The car she nearly hit slows down and flashes her in. She starts to pull across again, get's 2/3 of the way into the lane and then changes her mind and pulls left again. She's still indicating right. She continues down to the roundabout, pulls out and goes straight on, causing chaos for the other cars that are trying to go straight on from the correct lane.

I had an Passat overtake me a while back at well over 80MPH with a space saver on the rear. Unbelieveable. He was pressing on in the fast lane, hustling cars out of the way.

It is braindead mongs like this that cause RTAs and close major motorways, causing chaos for thousands.
