Had the day off work so ive spent the last few hours on ebay dreaming, which is never a good thing, and have found a rather nice looking porsche 924 going for £800.

Now i have a mg f which i am using as a daily driver atm but its not really practical enough for me having only 2 seats, also now, with the summer coming is probably the best time to sell as i should get a good price on the mg.

So, in my position would you swap or stay.

I'd swap for a 944, but not a 924.

If you fancy a change why not. The 924 won't be as quick, use more fuel and arguably won't be as much fun in the summer sun. But it's a decent handler if a bit old school.

A 924 for £800...It won't last the summer! Didn't the Top Gear lot get one on one of their test runs, that didn't last a day!

TBF, it doesn't look too bad but what does it have over the MGF?

"Real Headturner" Seriously? Maybe if it were on fire!

I briefly had a 924....it was an auto too.

If the one you've spotted is a good un then hell, why not?!! As long as nothing nasty happens you should get your money back.

You only live once!

Just been on the phone to him and apparently the only welding needed is a patch on the exhaust.

The three Porsches for under £2000 challenge, the 924 Hammond got for that worked fine, the 928 Clarkson bought didn't, maybe that is what you are thinking of?

OP you mention 4 seats, the rear seats in a 924 (or 944) are really small, unless small children use them they are pretty much redundant IMO.

Do it. I wouldn't look twice if an MGF went by but I'd notice a 924.

924 will give far better fuel economy. But they aren't quick. They do like to rust in the sills, but they are a stress free car to own. While not fast at all you can press one on due to the excellent handling. Very practical 2 seater too with a big boot, only an occasional 4 seater though. Although I did go down to the South of France in the back as a 6 footer. I am no malformed!

Absolutely spot on.

I ran one as the daily driver around London a few years back and absolutely loved it. Felt much quicker than it was, due to being so close to the ground, and it was a delight on country roads.

Get one with the big sunroof that lifts out and it feels almost like a cabriolet.

And because the 2.0 engine is a VW van unit, parts are pretty cheap off Eurocarparts and so on.

I'd seriously consider getting another.

I wouldn't either for that particular example. It'll (potentially) be trouble and big bills for that money. It'll need work...

Surely an £800 944 is going to be a dog. Where as it should be enough to get a good useable 924. On that basis I'd say go for it.
