Saw in one of the 'Scene' screens at Westfield a couple of weeks ago - very good film.

A bit slow to get going, but stick with it. Swedish dialogue, but still worth the effort!! Not a good first-date sort of film (as the subject-matter is a bit harrowing), but good plot, good script, well-acted and thought-provoking.

Enjoy!! smile

Must be good if Hollywood are wanting to remake it already, in their own indomitable way of not having a new idea in the last 10 years.

Now that is one film I really will look forward to seeing. I just hope they don't try padding it out with unnecessary CGI and, stick to the original storyline.

I brought the Mrs the three books after hearing Geoff Lloyd talking about them on Absolute, she said they were real page turners.
We watched a "dodgy" copy a few weeks ago, she said it was a really good representation of the books, I gave up after 5 minutes as I don't "do" subtitles.
It does p1ss me off that Hollywood have to mess with everything, why does it have to be set in Canada ffs?

I totally agree! It's a real shame that they have to destroy all semblance of realism/identity/atmosphere that the author had created. Still, 'tis early days and, I live in hope that the final production bears some resemblance to the original. Fingers crossed!

The books are brilliant.

The reviews of the first film are that it is excellent, does a very good job of representing the book. The second film most agree is rather naff and doesnt work with the book, with a return to form in the 3rd film.

I understand that with the Hollywood remake they will be using Carey Mulligan to play Lisbeth, in which case I have very high hopes.

Of course, the big question to geeks of the book is who will play the unsung cult hero Paulo Roberto, the King of Kings. There is the suggestion in the books of a classic subtext plot with the confirmed lesbian having a crush on the engaged alpha male boxer who rescues her and stays by her bedside. Its very well written and Steig just leaves it hanging in the air, delicately posed as it should be and temptingly never explored.

The Mrs says that Harrison Ford would be suited to this role...

OK, So I went and saw this last night. Here are my thoughts...

1st, only go and watch this if you CAN do subtitles, as there are lots of them.
2nd, it really is a very good film, slighly shocking in parts (I had not read the book so I was not expecting most of it).
3rd, I think it will be ruined by the "Hollywood" version, it really does work very well in Swedish. All the characters come across very well, Especially Lisbeth (she is quite creepy).

I don't want to put too much in here as I think that people should go and see this film!
