Shouldn't be allowed to and I can see they won't be able to. It's like Arsenal asking for Wilshere back from Bolton if they lost their 1st choice midfield.

They have asked the PL to allow them to sign a keeper but they have Nielsen and Karius as cover so I can't see why it would be allowed.

The Football League will allow you to sign an emergency loan keeper. When Blackpool were promoted to the championship the other year, our second choice keeper was already injured, so we had our youth team keeper on the bench. Then with about 6/7 games left our first choice keeper got injured, so next game we had to play the youth keeper who managed to break a finger.

We asked the league about a loan as we had no other keeper available. They gave us permission and we loaned Joe Hart from City. We could only use Hart until we had a fit keeper. Our 3 keepers had to have medicals each week by independent doctors. Hart played the final 5/6 league games, till our first choice keeper recovered, who then played in the 3 play-off games.

I can't believe they're being allowed to sign an emergency keeper on loan, they've still got at least one in the squad who is fit, I wonder how many teams will try and pull this trick again next season? The FA really are a bunch of incompetant fools.

I think that, unless a recall clause is written into the contract that's held at the FA, then both teams would be in breach of contract if they cancelled it. Anyway Joe Hart will be wearing an Arsenal shirt next season wink

i can see given really struggling with this injury. it's his 'bad' shoulder and at his age he may never get it back functioning 100%.

don't see why hart couldn't come back if brum agreed. it's a contract between the 2 clubs, and if dissolved mutually i can't see what it has to do with anyone else to be honest.

i have a feeling hart will start next season as our no 1 keeper and given will drift in for cup games and move into a coaching role if his shoulder doesn't get back to 100%.

Why the hell should they be able to recall keepers on loan or even sign an emergency one, City have 9 keepers on the books and the one who stepped in for Given didnt look too shabby and besides, he must have been half decent for them to sign him in the first place.
If they do get someone signed on emergency basis, does that mean Liverpool can rush out and sign a striker because Torres is injured? Oh no, they cant because they have other strikers just like City have other keepers, it is just hard luck that your top keepers are injured or out on loan.

As usual, football fans know nothing of what they talk about. Keepers are a special position, whereas out field players can change positions (ie Fullback to Centre half).

I was merely stating my opinion Mr Bingo, i dont claim to know anything about football.
You, however, must be the footballing oracle.
Please in the future just voice your opinion rather than commenting on how wrong everyone else is, this seems to be very common on pistonheads.

I understand that a keeper is a specialised position but the problem I have with this situation is that City do have a fit keeper in their squad and who played at the weekend when Given was carried off the field. If they didn't have a single keeper available who could wear a City shirt then it would be fine for them to sign an emergency cover but it's that fact they bought this guy but have only now decided he isn't good enough. Perhaps Arsenal shouldve tried this, afterall we've had to put up with Fabianski for a few games this season!

ok, with no respect, why the hell are you commenting on something you go on to profess you know nothing about? (which is pretty clear having referred to our '9 keepers')

1 and 3 injured. 2 on loan. 4 has played 17 mins for wrexham. rest are academy squad.

Shay Given
Joe Hart
Gunnar Nielsen
Stuart Taylor
Johansen
Karius
Gonzalez
Giraldo

Given and Taylor are injured, Hart is on loan. Which leaves you with Nielsen and the last 4 keepers on the list which have all played for your reserve team (not academy, RESERVE team) this season. Seeing as the reserve team is, err, in reserve for the 1st team, I don't see what the issue is with playing any of those. They may be academy players but since when has age been an issue? If you are good enough, you are old enough, especially if they have signed professional contracts. Plenty of 16/17 year olds have played in the Prem. Micah Richards made his debut for you when he was only 17.

So I don't think the issue is that Citeh don't have any goalkeepers, I think the issue is that they don't have a keeper who they think is any good!

Oh how bad am i for not knowing exactly how many keepers city have, i stated that i didnt `claim` to know anything about football, that does not mean that i dont. You are a miserable sod so just get a grip would you, its not as if i personally ran onto the pitch and kicked Given in his shoulder.

As a birmingham fan I would agree with this! Win win for both parties then.

I would love to see Joe back at Birmingham for next season but cant see it happening after the season he has had.

He has been fantastic for us and should be Englands number 1 IMO.

i think it all depends on shay's injury. if it turns out to be a long term problem then hart will be back for 10/11 season.

It would be a great shame if it was long term. Given is easily one of the best in the prem.
