Had my front tyres changed on Saturday (originals were 225/35 18 which tramlined badly).
The original tyres had a bit of vibration at 90 but you could drive through it - I'd had them balanced properly but assumed the spiders are a bit bent - not unusual I understand.
When the new tyres were fitted, the foreman said the wheels were bent, but it sounded like a "can I sell you refurbishment" type of comment , especially since I doubt they had time to do a proper check and I know this guy always finds something to warn you about
Since the new tyres are on (225/40 18) the vibration is worse and is from 70 - 90+. I called the garage today and they said we'll have another go, whihc is fair enough, but they also said they new tyres would make it worse.
Is that true? I would have expected it to be no worse. As it is I've gone from tramlining to vibration

I had a similar thing recently where the guy fitting the tyres notices a slight distortion which appeared to be the tyre rather than the wheel. He didn't know what to do about it. We decided that he should turn the tyre 180° on the wheel, which cured it. He said he's seen quite a lot of similar problems recently from several manufacturers.
Seems to be a common problem. My Chim has vibration around the 90 - 100 mark and has had for years, through several tyre changes. I have a good friend who owns a tyre fitting company, so I know he's not ripping me off. He has tried many times to improve the balancing (for free), and it's as good as it's going to get. Dulford Automotive have checked the drive train etc and can't find the source either, so I just live with it. Not really a problem in the UK, but can be on long mway trips through France when you tend to spend more time in the 90 - 100 range than you do in the UK.

There are apparently some guys that can undertake contactless balancing now, which is meant to be better than the standard dynamic balance.
I dont know much about it, asked the question on here not long ago and didnt get a response. It may be a better approach.
I have a similar issue, vibration about 90ish feels like its coming through the rear wheels, all shocks and geo have recently been done.
