Hey guys,

Trying to solve my miss fire issue and been checking the resistance on each of the leads. They all seem to be around 4.8 however one is 5.9. Any ideas what the normal resistance should be?

Cant help on the resitance but is it missing at idle? If so pop of each injector clip at a time and see which one has little effect on the running. This should narrow it down to a cylinder at least.

I had a plug fail in mine cause a slight miss, ended up going to NGK iridiums and it does runn smoother.

Its ok at idle just seems to do it underload. however it is intermintant so feels like you are dabbing the breaks every now and then.

Can you put a laptop on it and take a log?

just swapping the leads should give you a basic check, whilst the engine is running if you DONT notice a change on engine tone when you disconnect (pretty easy to hear) you know that one is playing up. Same can be done for injectors, plugs etc.

You could just start with a tie wrap check?! place a tie wrap on each of the exhaust manifolds to see if you have a problem on one cylinder?

How does the tie wrap check work then?

Put the end of a tie wrap on each of the six exhaust manifolds, it should melt on every one, if it doesnt....you have a problem!!

Watched Dom at Power diagnose a faulty wire to an injector with it on a 4.3 just recently so know it works!!!

Thats quite clever lol

I think my problem is intermitant so its not as if its not firing on all 6 its just every so often one fails to fire.

when you say intermitant, you mean, not all the way through the rev range or for example sometimes at idle it will happen, sometimes not?

Could be throttle bodies way out...that would cause problems at idle and it appears as a misfire in various guises through the throttle / rev range. At light throttle hesitation and at hard throttle, high in the revs, vibration and a significant misfire.

You need a log really, check throttle pots, lambdas etc

If I am at constant rev's it will miss fire for example sitting at motorway or town speeds. I can hammer it all the way to the red line with out an issue.

I have put around 400 miles on it since the last service and the only problem then was a dodgy HT lead (which they swapped in the service). Its the same symptoms as it was back then.

Well got some leads on the way and going to see if that works if not then I shall plug a lap top in. I take it the ECU would pick up a fault with the pots?

Anu luck checking the iginition system and fueling then?

Take a look at where the pots are relative to each other when you first plug in, if they are more then 1% out to eachother this could be part of the prob at least.

Also, be aware that you need to check for worn throttle bodies if you are going to replace any pots, and worn bodies will in turn accelerate wear on brand new pots, and you will be repeating the job a lot sooner than you would like wink

Just spent a couple of weeks trying to find what sounds like a similar problem, didn't show up on the computer but I new it had a slight missfire. Changed most things - throttle pots, coil pack, lambda, plugs, leads, still not cured. Turned out to be 2 exhaust valves had vertualy closed up, reset them and it runs like a dream.

Well had to put it all back together this evening as I am getting new rubber fitted tomorrow. It fired up fine (without throttal needed for a change) and idled fine. Shall take it for a drive to bed the tyres in and see how it goes.

Just thought I would post the resitance of my HT leads just in case someone else may need this information in the future.

What did you mean with resetting the two exhaust valves. Adjusting clearance ?
