I have had a car off them in the past. They certainly were and I think still are a main dealer. They were ok to deal with, nothing special/nothing terribly bad.

My dad went a bought a Ford Kuga from them about 3 hours ago. Their a main dealer and used car 'supermarket', for example there was an Evans Halshaw Ford main dealer then next door was an Evans Halshaw used car showroom but all the cars were more like ex-demonstrators.

Were very good apparently, got the car brought up from down south (were in the midlands) free of charge and made sure it was brought up after the garage wouldn't release it.

Only part of one of the biggest dealer groups in the country, Pengragon.

It is Evans Halshaw, but trade under a multitude of names.

Good and bad reports abound.

Part of a huge national company, individual dealers are good and bad, often seem overpriced compared to competitors and up here seem very keen to point out the weekly/monthly cost of the car than the actual price.

I recently bought a new Mondeo from Fordthorne in Cardiff. Evans Halshaw were way, way more expensive and wasted a few hours of my time "beating" the deal I told them about and then revealing the additiional balloon payment at the end. Morons. rolleyes

Crap experience personally. Wasted 1 hour trying to underwrite value of p/x on a Sunday. Did not bother calling me back the next day. I bought elsewhere.

As Renault dealers go service department also pretty poor. I'd avoid unless the deal was too good to turn down.

Very interesting stuff, I must have missed that one.

Bought my current daily hack from them a few weeks ago (Burton-on-Trent) dealt with a chap called Carl IIRC dam nice fella, gave me a decent price on the Legacy even though it was on a Y plate with moon journey mileage and the Saab was a good price.

Kept the good lady and sprog entertained and the coffee was half decent!

i bought my accord from them, and the car and service didnt seem to bad. HOWEVER!

when i got the car back i gave it a check over and discovered a massive dent in the front wheel and a split in the tyre. So i went to swap it with the spare which i was told was almost new.

Opened the boot to get it and it was completely bald.

phoned them up and they couldnt care less, said they would phone back and never did, never put me through to the right person was a complete mess.

i seam to find 90% of all car sales men i deal with at the moment couldn't care less. None of them return calls, they all try to get out of even the most minor problem and are even rude to your face. not as if i didn't have the funds obviously avalible to them either!
il steer clear of Evens then i think as i have had enough pillock salesmen to last me a life time

Bought an ex rental vectra off them, nothing to moan about bar the £50 or so "admin fee" which covers the cost of an HPI (on a car from hertz, you really need that?) even still they were cheap.

I bought a used Mondeo from an Evans Halshaw a couple of years back. The only reasonable TDCI 130 GhiaX Estate within about 50 miles.

The salesman was a bit thick and struck me as a 38yo who lived with his mum. His manager was a typical, greasy car salesman probably used to blagging it to middle-aged ladies (rather than reasonably-well-informed tight wads his own age) and they insisted on an 11th hour, 50 quid charge for some cr*p mats and something else random that can't remember and I didn't want. I argued the case and eventually ground them down and got half a tank of fuel ...and the cr*ppy mats. But the cars I wanted were thin on the ground at the time.

The engine had a non-warming-up problem that they refused to acknowledge "They all do that, sir"
"diesels run cold" -so why does it never reach 'normal' then?
"it's the same gauge as the petrol ones" -Do you think I was born yesterday?

Took it in, they bullsh*tted me that they had fixed it (they hadn't) so I researched on the www and found the cause & solution. The service department (They were a FORD Main dealer!) claimed that they didn't know about the issue and said that they would then fix their own cars because they didn't warm up either.

Muppets.

I would never go back to Evans Halshaw.

ps. I also received a Xmas card from the salesman!

Edit:
PPS. The salesman originally tried to get me to buy an '06 TDCI and told me that it was a 130bhp, despite the 5 speed box (which wasn't fitted to the facelifted Mk3 130), "some of the 130s come with 5 gears" and distinct lack of grunt. I looked under the bonnet and pointed out the "115ps sign".

Useless

My Mrs wanted a new run around but wanted to do the deal herself.
We had seen a deal at Evans Halshaw advertised on a brand new clio so of she goes and does the deal comes back all excited. She had managed to get the car at £48 per month more than advertised. She explained to me this was because she wanted it in black, opted for a CD player and the special paint protection and all this should really have been £64 per month extra.

I immediately went down looked at the car in the show room with the advert plastered all over it. The car was in metallic black, it had the CD player in and also a sunroof. No where on the car was there any small print saying about the extras been additional.

So I went to see the sales man after a lot of discussion with him and his boss the agreement was shredded and a new one made for a car at the same spec in the showroom at the price advertised.

All in all pretty much par for the course for any mainstream marque dealer chain i.e. staffed by the misfits and outcasts of society in hand-me-down blazers, all of them utterly clueless and untrustworthy and an 80s parody of themselves. I don't like main dealers as a rule!

Coincidence seeing this thread as I was going to ask about them yesterday....

My wife went to our local EH to ask about fitting isofix to our CMAX. After lots of calculator tapping, the miserable salesman said £173. I thought this was a lot, so called another Ford dealer a bit further away, and was quoted £95. So I called EH and spoke to another (nicer) salesman, who, after lots of calculator tapping, quoted £123. I asked if he would match my quote of £95, and he said he would. I haven't mentioned that his colleague was clearly trying to rip off my wife, but might do when we get the job done.
