it seems the police/vosa/dvla, are having a clamp down on modified cars. this is info from a mate not me. has anyone heard anything to back this info up. says a mate of his has fallen foul of the law because of a chopped roof, and has heard of a few more that have been pulled over.

No but believe me, I have seen hundreds of cars that really do need pulling over.

seems to be anything modified from original, ie mods to transmision tunnel or bulkhead to fit a different engine and box are a big no no. basicly anything that changes the car from OEM.

As there is no law stating it is illegal i dont see that they do anything, rumours have been around for ages regarding this but nothing is planned

ah, this is ballcocks, there was some noise about it last year, and past the headline, it first boiled down to just kit cars being banned, and then further still to kit cars having stricter controls on their ID based on a points system where a certain number of major components were needed from an original vehicle for it to keep it's ID.

A certain muppet read the article completely wrong (or maybe decided on a more Mail-like headline) and claimed something like "Modified deathtraps banned from UK"
I bet they thought about blaming it on Brussels too

well my mate is a bit of a doom and gloom merchant, from what i can find on the interweb, it looks like if a modded car dosent reach a given number of points on origonal parts, it gets an SVA type test and put on a 'Q' plate....(i think)

yea, something like that, although i think they don't use q-plates anymore, you give them a reasonable age and proof, and that's the plate you get
