I have a 97 M3 Evo and the oem tyre widths are 225 fornt and 245 rear, however these tyres protrude from the rim.

My question is what will happen if i change them for say 215 front and 235 rear, or even 205 front and 225 rear, will this stop the tyres rolling as much or is this a very bad idea for any reason?

Any advice is appreciated.

Regards

Ben

185's will do the trick, or at a push 165's

They protrude to prevent the rims getting damaged when kissing kerbs, you should be able to buy tyres that do not have rim protectors in the same size, just a case of finding them....

Get ruler jezzuz! smile

If you start going less width on the existing rim they will start to stretch. It's ok up to a point but too much stretch and they may come off mid-corner.

handeling will be fine, dont forget wide tyres tram line or in water aquaplane, or just ride up and spin in ice, so some nice thin 165's will just ride thru and cos they are not as wide will not weigh as much so the mass rolling weight will be lower so the car will be quicker

3.0 litre M3s ran 235/40 all round, a lot of people seem to think that's a better option which gives less understeer.

Dear Mr Schumacher

I suggest you slow down a bit.
