335i M sport manual
Discussion
Hi,
I have a 335i M Sport I am wanting to sell but it is difficult to gauge what I should ask for it. It is manual on a '57 plate with no Nav. Good general condition with just over 25500 miles. Pretty much in standard spec Leather etc but no real 'extras' and 18" rims. I got £20k from a dealer as a part ex, is this a good figure? Glass's guide gave a private sale price of another 10% - 15% is this achievable. Any advice is appreciated.

at £19,995 you should be safe. Being a manual with low spec but
big engine means that you have to sell it on price alone. You might get lucky and
find the right buyer who might want a toy or trackday car. Most people want
all the toys and the new DCT gearbox, especially city types.
If you have a loaded car or a car with ultra low miles, then that becomes the
cars USP. In your case it might need to be based on the price compared to the market.
The other consideration is that there are not that many people with £20K
disposable income - most have a px or need finance...so be prepared for a
wait and advertise it on as many free media sites you can.
Weed out the time wasters by asking them if they have tried an insurance
quote prior to viewing - dreamers will stay away - if the buyer is over 35
then the insurance wont be an issue anyway. Just some pointers to help.
Also get a trade in price from a dealer based on outright buying your car
so you know the bottom trade price - at a guess this might be £2-£3K less
than you are going to ask. This is important because at the end of the day
if the first person looking at your car offers you say £19K - dont be too
tempted to play poker and turn him down - it might be the only offer you get
and 3 months later you could end up taking the dealers £17K out of frustration.
All of this is IMO obviously - based on experiences. All the best.

TRL is bang on the money IMO. Having a 335i with the manual box started you off well, but then having no options on it killed it dead! You are going to have to price it well to sell. For me having no options at all would rule the car out completely though.
If guide price is only another £2k on your trade in/buy back offer then I'd probably go for that.

Thanks for the help chaps, pretty much what I thought its just nice to see a few other opinions. Going to take it to my local dealer and see what he would buy it for. Spoke to two BMW dealers today but neither would purchase it outright because of the spec. Pity, its been a great car. Lesson learnt.
Sytner wouldn't buy my 320d sport touring because it had no nav, had upgraded hi-fi and bluetooth but no nav and they wouldn't touch it. So a 335i with no options is going to get hit pretty hard.
Looking on autotrader there are loads of sub 40k mile 335i's on there for under £20k, and a manaul m-sport coupe with 29k on it and bluetooth for an asking price of £18750.
Bite the dealers hand off.
