I've had my 2.0D 'S' X-Type for about 2 months and it's run very well, up until this morning when it started to surge when cruising at 60-70mph. It has covered 82,000 miles and has full Jaguar service history. I've just been out in it again for a short run and noticed the power is down, it seems to have a flat spot when accelerating between 2-3k RPM. Any ideas?

it could be a split in the boost pipe or intercooler . its usually the top boost pipe that splits. listen for a hissing noise under acceleration .

Thanks guys, brilliant advice!!!! I would have normally gone in there with the tools myself but as it was chucking it down took it to a main dealer where my son works (family 50% discount on labour) and took it for a drive with their service reception fellah. we both heard the hissing under acceleration and lifted the bonnet, the intercooler top hose had been rubbing against the lower auxilliary belt pulley and very neatly cut through the hose retaining clip allowing the hose to become dislodged. The clip was replaced and the car runs as well as ever without the noise or black smoke. Thanks again, PH's gassing is brilliant.
