Brand new car too
Lucky guys to walk away from that
Looks like it may have rolled as well as playing pinball with barrier
Wonder if it had a "black box"

I 'may' have once known a Traffic Cop who 'might' have told me that this stretch was used to test V Max and handling of the patrol cars when things were quiet, e.g. "the rear of the 5 series wants to step out above 140 mph!" ( It was a 5 series in the crash by the looks of this).
Of course, I might have misunderstood what he said, and no such shenanigans ever took place.

But why, when there were no serious injuries, did the motorway need to be closed for 6 hours disrupting hundreds if not thousands of motorists?
I understand in fatal or possible fatal accidents, they need to treat as a crime scene until proven differently (eg. the recent road rage murder on M74)
So why do the police have authority to inconvenience everyone so that they can effectively conduct an internal enquiry?

Because they can? Or maybe the investigators couldn't get near because of the traffic?I understand in fatal or possible fatal accidents, they need to treat as a crime scene until proven differently (eg. the recent road rage murder on M74)

I wonder how many people missed flights and appointments because of this, Joe Public seems to be the last person in the queue when stuff like this happens.
That's a fast stretch of road, and first impressions of the damage to the car seems as if they were shifting at the time. The roof of the car is damaged too, so like S2red says, they likely flipped too - or is it possible to damage the roof without flipping?
Glad everyone's ok. Could have been so much worse.
Terrible. Delayed me from work by 3 hours. These crashes seem to be happening very often with the police these days. I 'heard' they were travelling with flashing lights although they didnt have any urgent business/incident to deal with?..
I have witnessed traffic police cars on the M8 in the past flashing lights to get past 3-4 cars in the fast lane then putting them off once they hit a clear strech of road.. The police get away with far, far too much at present.
I hope the Polo driver is okay.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a police basher (or a police car basher
) and I accept like every other job you need to do training. So whether that is as a brickie, a plumber or a traffic cop, you need to be trained with the tools you use in your job, in the same way that you will be using them.
So high speed training needs to happen, and when better than on a deserted stretch of motorway like this which, I am sure many on here, will have floored it a bit at.
However it turns out it wasn't deserted and some poor soul has been caught up in this. Its one thing pulling over when you see blue lights in your mirror, its another thing when those blue lights are somersaulting towards you!
So I don't have much of a complaint with what they were doing, I do have an issue that the public were inconvenienced to facilitate an internal policy enquiry. That would not happen to your brickie, plumber etc and thats the big difference.

The incident comes just weeks after a police car, with lights flashing and siren blazing, struck the central barrier while heading south on the M77 near Silverburn, Glasgow. Days later two officers escaped when their patrol car careered off the road and plunged into the Forth and Clyde Canal while travelling at speed through Kirkintilloch on an emergency call.
