huge hydraulic leak and knocking front suspension.
Discussion
I went to look at a M400 for sale and this was another problem I found .Maybe one of you enlightened ones can advise.
1] there is a huge amount of what tasted like hydraulic fluid puddled on the bottom tray under the brake resevoir. This had sprayed all the way under the car . It was definitely from the car, maybe steering column? [and yes I have a habit of tasting to see if its oil, Hyd, or coolant, old habit]
2] At full steering lock, the "aluminium block" above the brake caliper on LHS had goughed into the suspension bits. Also pinches the brake line.
On RHS , the rim inner edge was scraping on one of the suspension bits.
The thing is, what is causing this? Is the steering rack damaged?, stops broken ? Something else ?
Also , wont all the hydraulic fluid cause the space frame paint to peel off eventually? This would require a lot of work to strip, clean and respray.
So what you all think? Otherwise the car is fairly clean and low milage.

Thanks guys.
Does the ATF take off paint as well ? I really dont feel like respraing the chassis members if I buy the car.
Also why is the steering going past full lock and knocking on suspension members?
ATF is not as corrosive as brake fluid, but it's not benign, either, so spills need to be cleaned up promptly.Does the ATF take off paint as well ? I really dont feel like respraing the chassis members if I buy the car.

As for the steering, I'm not sure about the applicable chassis numbers, but IIRC steering rack limiters were installed in some cars to address that problem.
