Challenge £5k total budget for the car and any modifications you like with the aim to be able to run 2 full laps of the ring i.e. 30+miles as fast at it can be driven so basically pushing some sort of reliability here.

So the aim to set the fastest time only criteria is 4 wheels any modification you like but the total allowed spend is £5k to be able to do the 30miles.

Should be some cracking ideas from the PH massive.

Hmmmmm... im sure someone will come up with an idea for something faster.... but i think a stripped out mk2 golf gti, with a 1.8 turbo conversion boosted to around 250-300 bhp would be acheivable for 5k-ish, add corrado brakes and decent pads, coilovers and track tyres and you might go a little over budget, but i reckon it'd be bloody quick!

Driving there wouldn't be fun, but I think you would struggle to beat this. (surprisingly few at 5k or less).

No one said you had to drive it there and i bet it could easily do sub 8 minutes

If you really want to drive it there then get a formula ford and stick it through a SVA and a daylight only MOT

I don't think a 1.7 crossflow will have the legs will it? There are a lot of big, flat out, straights and high speed corners at the 'ring so I think outright power will have some importance. I think something light with good handling and a turbo.

How about a 944 turbo? Get a reasonable ish one for about 4k, throw away all of the interior trim and the unneeded extra seats. Fit late 928 brakes and track day tyres then wind the boost up as far as you dare.

Has to to be this for me, I dont think your going to go much faster for under 5K as well as having a comfortable journey there and back (maybe not with the coil overs so much).

Will that car have the close ratio box? Does around 120 on the limiter in 5th? If so it wouldnt be that particular one.

I think you'll find that 360HP is only going to get you to 120MPH on the longer straights and there isnt a lot of them before you have to worry about breaking.

My money would be on an Mr2 turbo, they can see 160+ with some mods, and they handle really well from what ive heard.
I love imprezas and evo, but i dont think they have the top end for the track without some serious mods, like a 6 speed box.

For £5k I'd be surprised if it made to the ferry, let alone the 'Ring.
