Would any of the following increase power of my engine:

battery
coil pack
HT leads
Spark plugs

Im looking to add throttle bodies etc so i am going for big power gains, but in the mean time i'd just like to get the engine perfect and help it along where possible whilst i save for the big stuff.

Its a 306 gti if that effects anything.

Cheers.

Just in case you are serious, no. None of these components will increase the power of your engine unless the existing ones are broken and preventing your car from generating an effective spark.

Spot-on.

And while we are at it, those nasty 'engine bay grounding' kits can be ignored too. HT-side circuits deliberately introduce kilo-ohms of resistance into the spark plug feed for two reasons - it helps with RF suppression and even more usefully, it extends the spark duration. And that guarantees ignition.

Shaving a few hundredths of an ohm at DC/low frequencies with more wire does exactly nothing in comparison.

Camshaft(s) are the biggest restriction in any vehicle. Air cant go through closed valves.
Next in line are things like intakes, heads, exhausts.

Do all of the above and much joy will be had. Then increase displacement...
Repeat until you run out of money or get married.

+1

And has been proven by well respected rolling road operator Dave Walker with back to back testing.

yes but i want the fun and experience of tuning an engine and racing a car. Yes evo's and scoobies etc can be tuned where you get more bang for your buck, but the car, the mods, the insurance, the maintenance, the tyres etc. are all much more expensive.

I do agree a bit with you but as i say cost is an issue.

You'll spend far more money for less gain on a n/a engine, than you will any boosted engine.

I'm not saying dont do it. Just that it will require a lot of money for little gain.

Depending on usage...the money may be spent differently in order to go faster.

On the BHP per £ basis the cheapest mod is Nitrous Oxide.

disconnecting the alternator drive belt may release 1hp,for a short time only though as the battery runs flat.

Changing the air filter (or removing it and sticking some gauze over the intake if you are brave, or silly) will make it a fair bit quicker.
