So the engine is running a treat but I now need to run it in. It's got new liners, rings, cam and all bearings. Power told me to do 1k miles with mineral oil. What's the general advise on how to use it? I've run bikes in in the past and the general advise is not to labour the engine and to increase revs over time. I don't want to end up with an engine that drinks oil.

My experience (limited) is that you need to drive it normally, but keep the revs below 3k ideally. Go through the gears, up and down the rev range and try not to end up sitting on the motorway at constant revs. Mineral oil for the first 1k.

After that then onto fully synthetic and increase the revs up to 4-5k on occasion for the next 1k or so and then I'd change the oil again to make sure I was happy there weren't any filings etc I didn't expect.

same here, you need to get the compression up to force the rings to push into the bore of the liner so that they don`t glaze over.

well on a 7 figure cost marine diesel engine running on mineral oil tank capacity sometimes 2m3 plus we just run engine and purify oil and clean filters etc then have oil analised, even medium speeds after unit overhaul would only run in for short period and load up to get gas load on comp rings etc
