Amazingly different thread, not 1 car but 2 required!!

You have £10k cash in your pocket you need 1 car for road use, presentable, good on fuel, able to tow a track car and missus friendly.

Your second a track beast. This must include upgrades to the track beast i.e coilovers etc etc.

Links would be good too.

Could the golf tow?

Something like an Astra or Focus worth 2k, and 8k on a Westfield would be (and is) my plan of attack.

I don't like Caterfield-type tackle, so if I was spending £10k, I'd put £4k towards an E39 BMW 530d (great economy, presentable, torque for towing) and the other £6k would be spent on a stripped Mitsubishi Evo V, slick tyres and coilovers. All weather trackday performance and decent crash protection.

I have a Legacy GTB and a turbonutter MX5, not sure exactly how the values would translate to the UK but that should be well under the budget. Works for me. smile

Fractionally over budget, but practical (well, the first one) and fun.

I did exactly this: Mercedes 190E & Westfield Zetec. Might have to stretch your budget fractionally, but massive savings would be made on running costs anyhow seeing as they're both a pittance to insure, reasonable to tax and actually not bad on fuel either. They're the perfect compliment of cars IMO and I haven't a clue what I'd replace either of them with if I had to.
