Just bought a 530i sport and their is a nail on one of the rears.

Its old and not worth repairing (on the wear marker).

The other side has what looks like a new Bridgestone S-02 but when I search for them they seem boxster specific....although the 'letters' seem correct.

My tyre has Bridgestone S-02 255/40 ZR17. T9606. S02KZ. DOT EJUY

It does not have potenza written on in (boxster ones?)

Is this the right tyre?

Hi, the tyre in the link you posted carries the N3 marking which is a Porsche specific tyre, does the tyre your trying to match also have this marking? Although the manufacture does not reccomend Porsche rated Tyres to be fitted to other vehicles I know plenty of people who do this with no problems whatsover

Having done a bit of swatting I'm not sure you can even get the s-02 any more.

Think I will call bridgestone tomorrow - all I want to do is match the other tyre instead of buying two new ones.

Why not just buy a pair and put the other "good" tyre on the spare?

You can, my boss just got 4 on his Boxster last month. The tyres were made late 2009.

Will the spare not be a space saver? I've got one hiding in the boot and they don't flatter biggrin

Sadly I'd say just bite the bullet and buy two new rears. The 530i is too good a car to ruin the handling with odd tyres.

The S02 is only made in very limited sizes now.

Such a shame as it's still one of my all time favourite tyres.

ETA: FWIW, the tyre you've linked is a pretty close match, though neither tyres list the load index.

I'm about to lpg it (tank in spare wheel space) so won't be using the spare.

Also I think the wheel rims are different sizes - certainly the tyres are 235 on the front and 255 on the rear.

Bugger - looks like gunna have to spend and extra £150 to match the rears - maybe get something for the old one on fleabay?

Just spoken to bridgestone - they don't make it anymore.

He also does not recommend using the N3 - will be specific for porsche (side wall for boxster weight etc)

Two new rears it is.

Might give Kuhmos KU31 a go.

The linked tyre is also KZ approved, which is Nissan and Toyota. The tyre you have on is a KZ tyre, so there might not be a million miles in it..

ETA: If you're looking for a new mid range tyre I'd suggest the Hankook Ventus S1 evo, it's done really well in this years group tests like this one

I'd recommend those over the Kumhos too.

I linked to the wrong article, though they didn't do too badly in that one.

I meant this one: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2010-Auto-Bil...

Stacked up really well on a high powered RWD beast.

No Hankooks for me - they don't seem to do 17 inch in 255 - strange.

Not sure whether to go Kumho or Eagle F1's......its an everyday drive - mainly m'way so wondering if the wet weather ability of the Eagles is the way to go.....

I would go for these FK452 for a little bit more.

I bought these Falken ZE912's - a great tyre, good price, seem to work well in all conditions.

I did a lot of research before buying - have a look on the net, some good reviews out there for this tyre.

They are good, but a more regular tyre than the FK452 which is a higher performance one. No doubt the 912 will last longer but offer less grip.

Buy a pair of new tyres, and then sell the S02 on ebay. Vredestein Sassanta also get very good reviews.
