Pescarolo future in doubt after Genii talks collapse

Despite a double Le Mans 24 Hours invitation and a confirmation that the cars would be racing at Paul Ricard there was no sign of a Pescarolo LMP1 car on track this year. French newspaper Ouest France recently announced that Henri Pescarolo’s contract had been terminated by Jean Py and it became clear that Pescarolo Sport’s Le Mans entry was in doubt. Today there was more bad news.
It was expected that Genii Capital, the Luxembourg investment firm that acquired a large stake in the Renault F1 Team, would be part of the 2010 Le Mans 24 Hours with at least some of its Gravity Racing drivers in the Pescarolo cars. Ho-Pin Tung was in fact confirmed as the number one driver on the number 17 Pescarolo 01 Judd.
After the news broke that Henri Pescarolo would no longer be with the team and current owner Jean Py confirming to Endurance-Info.com that it was far from certain that there would be a Pescarolo on the grid in June the mood worsened. Genii Capital added even more bad news to it by sending out the following press release.
Genii Capital has ceased negotiations with Pescarolo Sport

Following recent speculation in the media related to a potential entry in the forthcoming Le Mans 24 Hours, Genii Capital would like to clarify that it has ceased negotiations with Pescarolo Sport.
In spite of extensive discussions, the team has been unable to provide the necessary financial and operational guarantees and Genii Capital has therefore decided to step away from this project.
The Motorsport arm of the Group will continue to focus on its involvement with the Renault F1 Team and its young driver management programme, Gravity Sport Management. Genii will nevertheless maintain a watching brief on endurance racing, and has not ruled out the possibility of entering this category in the medium term.
It remains to be seen if Jean Py and/or Henri Pescarolo can prevent the team from disappearing from the Le Mans entry list. At this point it is more likely that the remaining teams on the LMP reserve list can prepare themselves for a trip to France in June.
