location of door mirrors, help needed
Discussion
Hi
could any one tell me the approximate position of where to fix the door mirrors on a 78 MGB, i have just bought the car and it only has mirrors on the quarterlights and not the doors and i don't want to drill the holes in the wrong place on the new doors. [ i guess the last owner did not want to drill holes to that is why he used the quarter light ones].
Thanks
Grant

It's a fair point - I've had two doorskins split because of the door mounted mirrors. I suspect that's the reason why your car has them on the quarterlights and not on the doors rather than putting holes in the wrong place.
Can't you just get a helper to move the mirror into the right place on the door while you sit in your usual position on the seat? Make a mark and drill as appropriate. The mirrors sit approx 1 1/2 inches below the quarterlights. Best to have the glass in the q/l open so that you know the mirror is in the right place, otherwise you can't open the q/l.
I've found that if I open the q/l I can stall rainwater onto the window and prevent it from leaking round the outside and into the cabin.
