I was just about to purchase a Canon G11 for everyone to use at home. But i really want a camera that has the ability to Geotag the photos of where they were taken.

We have a number of trips coming up to see family abroad in India/Kenya and it would be nice if i they would be geocoded to where were are.. The Geotagging seems to be a bit of a gimmick but it would be really useful for over the next few months when either me of my wife are travelling.

I know one of the Nikon Cameras has this facility build in but i am a Canon user and i was looking at the G11, but i cant find out of there is any additional acessories avalible for the Canon to Geotag the photos.

Anyone offer some advice?

I geotag mine by using a Garmin walk about GPS unit and a free to download bit of software that matches the GPS data with the pictures using the time stamp on both.

That way I can geotag photos taken with any of the cameras I own and not just one. Only downside is that I have to remember to take the GPS with me, and to turn it on when taking photos.

You could fit a Jobo PhotoGPS in the G11's hot shoe. It basically triggers a GPS recording with every photo, then you match up through software.

You may wish to note that Engadget reports updated versions are on the way

There's a shoe based system for the Nikon by the looks of things.

Ahh, just found the manufacturer's blog, only Nikon at the moment.

But here's a thread about Canon & geotagging, might be something in there.
