Yes they are fully trained soldiers who rotate between ceremonial and operational duties.

I do not know whether they carry live rounds in the stagboxes, but there are obviously plenty of people who do carry live rounds hidden away.

I believe they are real weapons, but when I was down in "landan" In Feb I noticed that they had the yellow blank firing cap adapter thingy under the rain covers. So I asume they carry blanks.

When they change the guard an identical number of fully equipped combat troops are parked up by Buck House in several trucks just in case. It's a ceremony yes, but they are also the sovereign's guard.

Depends on the Security state apparently. Over 60 rounds when the wind is right.

Many years ago, I did ceremonial duties at London Horseguards and Windsor (late 80's), it was amazing the things women used to suggest to me. I would have to think of bad things to stop myself getting a boner. I once had a girls phone number pushed down over my bayonet. Fnarr.

Some also once stabbed an orange onto it. You just have to stand there and not move. great fun.

How do they teach you to stand there like that all day? I could manage maybe 10 minutes as an absolute max. What about wanting a piss? Genuine question.

Why on earth would they have BFA's on for ceramonial duties? I can't think of any reason why they would fire blanks, the things look naff, I've only ever known them fitted for exercise, and they'd be like a big neon sign to the bad guys saying "I've only got blanks"?
