Daihatsu Materia
Discussion
Went for test drive of one of these today, I know the looks divide opinion and its not really PH type of car.
I need something which can manage both A roads and motorways and does not use much fuel and have also looked at the Panda 100hp.
The one I looked at was a 2009 car on a 58 plate for only £6500 and had warranty still left on it until 2014.
I really need the view of the people on PH before I do something stupid and buy it and regret it.

That looks a bit like a Kia Soul ? I quite like it in a Japanese box-car kind of way.
Whats the craic with Daihatsu at the moment - were there not stories of dealers not having any stock and not being able to order any either ? Might make that warranty as useful as a vented condom.

Quite cool. It's sold as a Toyota (well Scion actually) in the USA and is a perfectly decent car.
The issue with Daihatsu at the moment is they are imported by IM (an independent company, not the manufacturer) and due to the collapse of the pound it's no longer viable to import them from Japan without imposing a price increase which would make them uncompetitively priced as they can't absorb the margin loss in the same way the VMs can.
Panda 100HP is a good shout, but the ride is utterly dire so make sure you can live with it before taking the plunge.

I’m looking at more economical cars as I have recently been made redundant and lost the fuel card and company car, and had to bring my car out of hibernation after 3 years and it only manages between 20 to 30 mpg and have just been offered a new job which is 70 commute each day.The issue with Daihatsu at the moment is they are imported by IM (an independent company, not the manufacturer) and due to the collapse of the pound it's no longer viable to import them from Japan without imposing a price increase which would make them uncompetitively priced as they can't absorb the margin loss in the same way the VMs can.

I have taken a massive pay drop so need to save where I can.
The ride in the Daihatsu was not great aswell and gear change was very floppy.
I'm going for test drive of Panda tomorrow.
