Hi everyone

I've recently read about a performance remap for the 520d that gives a sizeable boost in power and doesn't invalidate the BMW manufacturers warranty as the upgrade is undetectable by BMW.

Can anyone shed any light on this, or is it fiction?

best regards

BMW also offer performance upgrades now. Maybe worth a look at their website, at least it wont invalidate your warranty.

I have been told by a service manager at a very good BMW dealer that they get found out in unusual ways. One cars central locking packed up.Digging into the system the software "update" was revealed, cost the customer a lot of money to get it sorted.

don't believe eveything a service manager tells you, if they have been in the trade long enough they'll be well versed to this kind of scare mongering.

No1 - the car may have had a software update, but that could be for a variety of reasons and nothing to do with a remap, and in any case, the dealer would have to show that this chip/upgrade was the cause, highly funking unlikey, and knowing dealers as i do, they wouldn't even mention it to the manufacturer who ultimately pays out. so it would get 'overlooked' unless there was some other dispute. but it would still go back to the first point.
No2 - remaps deal with fuelling, timing etc, not the other bits, it is highly unlikely a chipped car would knock out the central locking
No3 - even if it did, the chippers warranty will cover it, although you'll have to go to court as i suspect that they won't believe it is possible for that to happen.

in summary , bks.

Fair enough ,hope you are right. You sound knowledgable enough.

Why do a lot of drivers tell their insurance company they have had a remap?Would/could they tell?
