how can you compare a 6 year old car with a brand new one???even if it bmw v mg.
projected and possible running costs between the two would be miles apart.
The biggest problem the current MGTF has is that for the same or a lot less money you could have your pick of lightly used convertibles including very lightly used MGTF's the priciest of which are still close to half the asking price of this and have already gone through the steepest part of the depreciation curve.
I have no doubt that these cars will find buyers, and good luck to them. But personally I value some things above a new reg plate.

Except that its a 6 yr old car...
You can get pre-reg or very very nearly new MX5's down to about 15k... Now THAT is a better option.

You'll get a 10 plate MX5 for very close to that. Very close indeed. I know where my money would go (or rather, has gone)
now thats a proper alternative.
if you like that kinda thing of course...

My OH had a TF (remember it was a different car to the F - suspension was completely changed IIRC) and it was a decent little car although the driving position could have done with some work for me.
Objectively, this is £13k for a mid-engined RWD soft-top 2 seater which handles pretty well and can be hustled along our b-roads. It is a bit twitchy on the limit as mid-engined cars tend to be and you need to replace the plastic rear window with a glass one.
Downsides are that it's an old design and fears about the engine will continue to circulate.

to the average man (or woman) on the street, wanting a new convertible, i think thats f
kin good value.
just shows how much markup is on other similar cars
i still wouldnt buy one mind...
In fairness most cars have about a 6 year shelf life in which to pay back the ineviatbly vast development costs. The MGF was released in what 1996? so its development and tooling costs were probably written off years ago. I don't really have a problem with the car as such but I do think if anything its actually over priced in terms of what it probably now costs to make.

I know it's an MG but still seems pretty good for a brand new 10 plate convertible? Anyone know if they are exactly the same as the ones of old or have there been any improvements?
Avoid. Same old car. Same old problems. Ask ANY owner of a new LE500. Major paint problems, roof seal problems, electrical faults, finish niggles and shocking parts availability.
Just avoid. Seriously. Get a barely used MX5. Infinately better product.
