So after a lot of irrelevant complications it seems I will have some spare spondulics for a car. I was thinking about an e39 M5 or an E46 M3 but the fact is I'm doing so little mileage (literally 10 miles a week max) that I'm unlikely to get much benefit from the expense.

So instead I'm thinking maybe a better bet is to ring-fence a couple of k a year for driving funs. So I'm interested in your suggestions on how best to achieve this...

Over to you.

That'll cost more than "a couple of k" though hehe

Only a little bit more than M5 money and you still have a car at the end of it...

hehe

Just out of interest, 10 miles a week is a tiny amount, can you not walk or cycle that, or do you need to carry stuff around with you? I'm questioning if you even need a car, and if you do, then why a big heavy GT like the M3 or M5? Wouldn't a small sports car or hot hatch be better suited to such short journeys? Both would be better to drive than a big heavy saloon.

I do cycle it as well but some day's it's a bit complicated. I do need a car and I have an old 7 which suits me just fine. I was going to replace it with something smaller and faster. I've always wanted and E39 M5 so wanted to scratch that itch but it's not essential. The M3 is just because I know BMWs and feel comfortable with front engine, rear wheel drive.

I know there's a load of other choices out there but the E46 M3 is good bang for buck at the moment.

Could be tempted by an MX5 but would want a more interesting engine in it.

No, but a good friend of mine has and he really enjoyed it. I do single seater racing on an arrive and drive basis, which would also suit you, but it's more than £2k a year. Cheaper than racing a Caterham though, a lot cheaper! wink

club100 is great and very good value. You'll get to race properly and seriously, on proper tracks, in fairly proper machines (they're just not cars). They are very quick too if all you are used to is a 4 stroke hire kart.

Looks good - I can't seem to figure out how much time you get in the cars though. Do you know?

Okay - point me in the direction of the arrive and drive single seaters as well then because on the track days I have done I have found the buzz of single seaters to be beyond compare.

I'll send you an e-mail smile

Basically, for the record if anyone else is interested, most racing championships have at least one team doing arrive and drive. I used to run my own car, but because I've moved to a house without space for a trailer or a big enough garage to really work on a car properly I sold my racing car and now pay per drive.

I wouldn't say I feel a "buzz" from driving a racing car, but certainly single seaters are far more captivating and fun to drive than other cars for me simply because they're so responsive, pure and much faster than what I've raced in the past. They're just absolutely lovely things to drive on the limit cloud9

Just sent, no worries. If the racing's too expensive then Club 100 is a great alternative! smile

About 15 mins or so. Doesn't sound much, but you have got 9 sessions throughout the day, the cars are impeccably maintained, the tuition second to none and you're absolutely encouraged to drive at ten tenths all of the time.
Extremely well organised and professionally run event!!
