Hi folks. I purchased a ratty old landy for some light off road use, a 93 Discovery. Unfortunately I can't bear the noise of the wheel bearings and terrible noise from the off road tyres, so I rescued a goodmans stereo from a colleague who wrote her MX5 off recently.

Anyway, the Landy has 3 connectors all with a retaining clip on the "side" of the oblong connector. The stereo doesn;t have a hole to plug any of these in to, it just has a space for a socket with the retaining clip on the "top".

Can I get an adapter to sort this out, or have I to locate a specific stereo for the Landy?

look for the ISO connector on ebay. They are vehicle specific not stereo specific, unless the stereo is completely ancient.

They're usually about a quarter of the price on ebay compared to halfords

Thanks for replies chaps.

The picture posted is sort-of right. The Landy has 3 female connectors sticking out of the dash (like those on the left) and I need it to terminate in one female connector to plug into the male socket in the stereo. I'll head off and search for ISO connector. smile

Any thoughts on stores that sell them cheap, as I could do with getting it going before my play-day on Sat. Might pop into Halfords....

I think this is the one you want.

Halfords will probably have one or be able to order one in. Only national shop I can think of. Or a specialist car stereo shop, but not sure if there are any in your area obviously.

Weird! That one seems to show the male/ female to be the opposite to what I have in the Disco/ need for the stereo. The one below seems to be correct, however, I have 3 outputs in the Landy dash, so which two do I use? Colour coded? smile

From the description the one seems to be just the connection coming out of the stereo with just wires coming off and no other connection, which would be used wire it in from scratch i'd imagine.

Also worth bearing in mind most of the ones on ebay won't be the correct picture, most of these sell hundreds of different ones and use a generic image for them all.

Best solution would be to go into halfords with the stereo, and ask them what cable you need, get the product code for the one you need use that for an ebay search. Bit rude though lol or just buy it from halfords.

Scratch that, from your first description it sounds like your landy has the ISO adaptor already and you are missing the cable from the stero, which may be stereo specific.

Maybe asking the person you got the stereo off if it has any leads for it. Don't think any stereos are sold without any leads at all, hence there being an ISO socket which they must have.

As for the three leads, one will be power, one for speakers, and the third probably steering wheel controls? Most aftermarket ones would use the power and speakers ones but not be compatible with the hand controls. If it doesnt have hand controls then not sure.

Might be worth putting some images up of what you have if possible?

And the 3 you have should all have specific prongs on them so they can only fit into the right one if that makes sense.

Further search I believe this is the one you want, which should be included with the stereo if bought new, but may have got lost along the way.

Thanks very much for all the help - much appreciated! I think the stereo came without leads as it was ripped out of her car rather quickly when visiting it to retrieve her belongings. The car was a CAT B write-off, the dash was a mess so wires may have been caught/ cut. I'll take some pics tomorrow of what I have if I can't find a cable at Halfords. smile

Good plan, well it sounds like you need the one specific for the stereo, in which case halfords might not sell them. But should be able to get one off the internet if not. If you have the model number for the stereo that might help.
