Went out to a Chinese restaurant (not a take-away kind) last night with the O/H and her mother.
Once the food started arriving we started getting the feeling that the waiters are really turning up the fawning over us with the manager coming over to check on us every 5 minutes or so. We didn't give it any significance at first but my mrs noted that he hasn't checked on any other table (the place was rammed by the way ) in the last 30 minutes or so but managed to check on us about 3 times in that time. The waitresses kept getting really flustered when we would make an order and could not apologise enough if they misunderstood something.

It started getting really awkward actually and I was beginning to wonder if the wine, we really really liked, was so good because they misunderstood my order and I will be looking at a 4digit bill at the end.

The bill has arrived and was all in order. On the way out I said goodbye to the manager who was holding a tray at the time but set it down immediately and practically ran over to me to say good bye and that it was nice to see me.

It was very funny in an awkward kind of way and I can't help but feel that I will probably disappoint him once he learns that I am not whoever he thought I was. That or he really liked me in a non platonic kind of way.

Have you ever felt or have actually been mistaken for someone more famous or successful than you are?

You're the first customers they've had since Environmental Health closed them down for the rodent problem in the kitchen.

Years ago, my old man had a Rolls Royce and a driver, to ferry him around in.

One night, as he was being driven through Manchester, the car stopped in traffic outside a theatre where a large crowd had gathered.

As the car stopped, several people rushed to the car and tore the door open screaming.

Then one of the young fans said to my dad 'Ere, you're not Cliff Richards!'

'Who's Cliff Richards?' was my dad's response.

I don't know about 'important' particularly, but I was in a restaurant last year and as I left with my guest we passed Ainsley Harriott (z list TV chef) who leapt up and asked me how I was and how nice it was to see me again. I responded as if I'd known him too (as you do).

My guest was impressed that I knew a TV chef. Frankly, who wouldn't be? smile

I dodged a train fare once in my younger days (eek!) and as we pulled into Waterloo the Gestapo were there in force, hats and everything. I thought I was in real trouble and walked up to this very large black guy in full uniform, before I could speak he said in a very loud Jamaican accent "weeeel, hello there! How's your mother? We haven't seen her in a long time? Is she better now?" Yes, much better thanks, although it hasn't been easy. "You be sure to send her our best now, won't you?" Of course I will, do you want my ticket? "I don't need a ticket from you young man...."

Off I trotted, heart beating at a thousand times a minute and feeling that the hand of good fortune had just brushed past me!!

You've obviously got one of those faces!!! I've never been mistaken for a celebrity, but there are a few people who look like me and make a fair living...

I used to work away from home down by Heathrow and always stayed in a specific hotel.

Now, after many months of staying there a few days a week I suddenly started being met at the reception desk with "Welcome back Mr Jones, I will call the duty manager to welcome you".

First time it was OK, but when all you want to do is crash after a long day the last thing I needed was having to wait for an over enthusiastic idiot to do what the receptionist could do.

This then happened on every subsequent visit, which was a pain.

Anyway, on one occaision I asked one of the girls what the fuss was about and apparantly I had a VIP status against my account hence the welcome and a free bottle of wine in the room. I think it was down to frequency of my visits, but it was a little over the top.

Did help me get a room when it was otherwise full however.

What you call a problem there, is an on-demand warehouse for the kitchen.

I was on a rugby tour in Northern Italy (near to Milan) a few years back and when we landed, we had literally hundreds of people asking for our autographs......odd as we were only the Under 21s side!!! Anyway so we signed for the "fans", posed for photos etc and thought "We did not realise our tour to Milan was such a big event for rugby supporters".

The next night Manchester United were playing Milan at football and just happened to have the same coloured tracksuits (red/black) and our initials were "MFC" which was the Italians probably mistook for "Manchester football club" hehelaugh

On a simerlar note my little brother plays for Bath Colts, they went to tour to somewhere or other and there were greated like heros. It was a rubgy tournament in some far off place and there were litterly posters advertising the tournament with pictures of the Bath team on them.

There are a few photos of people in his team stood next to their various billboards etc, pretty cool really.
