Army v Navy Rugby Twickers Sat

Just what it says on the tin.
Anybody going? Its usually the best day out to Twickers all year. Great atmosphere, watch the legends match at the stoop first and then drink the afternoon away. With the imminent demise of Gordon the Moron, the forces boys should be rocking and rolling with gusto.

Been a few times when I could get freebies / cheap tickets.
Agreed, it really is one of the most underrated sporting events. Superb day out and despite having thousands of probably the most pissed people in the UK, exceedingly friendly. Scoobydo passing out pissed half way up the stand and falling over backwards and rolling most of the way back down was a particular highlight for me.
The rugby is s
t, but then that's not why you go. If you actually leave knowing the final score, you're doing it wrong.

Army 22 v Navy 24, first naval victory in a decade, won in the last minute by a forward try and fitting it was aswell. The naval Pack performance was awesome, they took the army apart all match and by God the no 7 put in the best performance Ive seen in a long long way. McCaw, Hill and Back combined.
The army had by far the better players. The army back line was basically the Fiji squad and ecky thump they are big quick lads, but they played almost as individuals. They scored tries as single thrusts from 20-30yrds out, individual breaks, not multi-phase play and the army forward effort was basically no 3 Chris Budgen trying to run through and over any bloke in blue he could find. The navy though put phase after phase of rugby together, trying to play and going forward through their Pack. Unfortunately this superb Pack couldnt scrummage worth a damn and immediately the army kept a hold on the match, from the set piece the could launch their back line, both on their own and quite frequently from disrupted and turned over navy ball.
Oh and there was almost no kicking. Ball was run, in fact there werent even any cheeky, interesting, annoying grubber kicks when there should have been. Here again was another fault line in the navy performance...until they brought a sub on midway in the second half, their kicking performance in general was utterly lame. In fact, little coincidence that the arrival of the new fullback heralded the superb navy comeback as instead of having to run everything, suddenly they had a guy who could boom the ball back 40yrds+ over the knackered heads of the army boys. The navy number 9 had the eye for a gap, quick feet, some pace but couldnt or wouldnt pass...bit of a bugger up for a no 9. The navy wasted at least 2 overlap chances because the man kept hold of the ball and didnt put it wide quick enough.
But at the end of the day the navy went back to their Pack. The final 15 minutes was a constant hammering from the naval Pack and the army simply couldnt cope with them.
Wonderful game, real rugby was back on show at Twickers.
