My RS has perfect original magnesium wheels on it. I'm planning on doing some track days this year, and I'm concerned that the biggest risk is probably wheel damage.
So I'm probably going to get a spare set of wheels, primarily for track days. I can't imagine that I'll actually put the mags back on until I sell the car though.
So it comes down to choice. These will probably be fitted with P-zero corsas, so I want to keep the price of the wheel as low as possible (cheapskate), and will go for second hand. I really fancy 18" speedline split rims. Are these sensible given my tyre choice? Or would I be better off going for some 17" Cup replicas?
And does anyone have anything available??

In a similar vein to the 964 RS mags,, the 18" speedlines are better kept off of the car!
They are heavy, have bolt corrosion issues and are expensive to refurbish.
I really would go for a set of 17" cups if i was in your position, ok they may be a little heavier than standard, but with sticky semi slick rubber fitted you will see more benefit anyhow.

Sorry can't answer re the 964RS, but for what it's worth, I recently bought a set of new 18" OZ Racing Wheels (split rim Superleggera III's) for my 996 for a shade over 2 grand including PZero Rossos. I believe the wheels on their own would be around 1600 - less if you're getting 17".
The wheels are supposed to be strong and lightweight and they work well on a 996 both visually and handling-wise.
If budget is the constraint, have you thought about looking at new rims from good manufacturers like OZ or BBS instead of second hand Porsche wheels?
Someone will be along shortly and telling me I should not be max-powering Deutschland's finest.

I can't say I am a big fan of the wheels, but the 18" Cup type wheels on the 993 Turbo are hollowed out, and therefore light, and you do see them for sale second hand every now and again.
I've got some RS 3pc Speedlines and they are a pain as they corrode around the wheel nuts. I would not recommend them as a "cheap" wheel - expect to pay £1000+ for a set which need refurb, and £1500+ for a second hand set that are in good condition.

Clarkey,
I also run a 964RS with 2 sets of rims.
I use the original mags during the summer months but switch to 17" cup replicas during the winter.
The mags are seriously lighter+stronger than most rims on the market and are therefore ideal for trackdays. Don't worry about getting them damaged on track, they take more of a beating on a public road esp. during the winter with all that salt and grit around.
Also bear in mind that 18" rims on a RS need a slightly different set-up.
