Hi, I recently bought a caterham fireblade but thought i'd post this query in here as I thought it might get a better response. I'm interested in a gear selector/indicator as i'm getting a bit frustrated with not knowing what gear I'm in. Has anyone had any experience with any of the different types available.

thanks

I have the Gi-Pro on my MNR Vortx R1, great bit of kit and if you are running a their speedo healer it just plugs straight in

Put 'motorcycle gear indicator' into ebay and a few alternatives will be shown. There's a Datatool unit that looks suitable at about £50

thanks for the replies, i think most of these use a wheel speed sensor to gauge what gear your in, is that correct? I'd pref one that doesnt do this as I think it'll get it's self in muddle.

It has to know how fast you are going, and the engine speed, to calculate the gear you are in. Unless there is an electrical output from the engine/gearbox which contains the actual gear selected info (as opposed to neutral or not) (I don't think the Fireblade has this) then there's no other way it can work.

You can probably get a signal from the propshaft or driveshaft bolts, shouldn't need an actual wheel sensor.

This is what the blurb on the Datatool says-

Suitable for most machines equipped with electronic Speedo and Tacho
Can be programmed with up to 8 gears
Re-programmable for instances of wheel or sprocket change sizes Auto dimming to minimise glare in dim light but maximise display when bright
Re-programmable at any time to
suit your changing requirements

So just a wiring job if you've got an electronic speedo, no new sensors required
