Cheap alternative to PS
Discussion
Evening all, just wondered if anybody can suggest a cheap alternative to photoshop? I know photoshop is fantastic and have used it lots in the past, but just can't justify the outlay right now, and I'm not one for a copy. Are there any cheaper alternatives? I'm not after the full works, just the basics that the PS Elements package can offer really? Thanks
OK, I've been playing for an hour and already stuck!? For some reason the help files haven't installed? I have a photo of my car in front of a nice background. All I want to do is leave my car in colour and make the background black and white - any tips? Thanks
I think the problem is that I am selecting the shape of the car with the magnetic lasso tool but the program is not actually selecting it? (Like it does with the other selection tools). Do I need to do something further when using this tool to complete the selection?

Probably needs a layer - add one, paste the cut out of the car into it - switch back to the background layer and change the colour settings. Flatten layers together and you should have what you wanted.I think the problem is that I am selecting the shape of the car with the magnetic lasso tool but the program is not actually selecting it? Another vote here for Gimp. Try on the online tutorials first.Although to be fair, Photoshop geeks, AutoCAD nerds...even 3D Blenders bow to my use of Microsoft Paint
