I like the technology involved, but I'm not entirely sure what it's for. The list of benefits just seems to list how it works, rather than what it offers a driver.

I can live without something saying 'Vehicle Ahead' at me repeatedly. I struggle to see what that does that is of the slightest use to me.

Don't get me wrong, I don't see it having a use in it's current form!

However I think the tech is quite cool, especially as we now have phones powerful enough to do this sort of thing.

I might have to go and splash out on a car mount for my iPhone and see if this is any good.

I would imagine that after about the 10th 'vehicle detected' or 'vehicle ahead' that I would probably just throw my phone out of the window, & I really don't need that kind of hassle.

The vehicle ahead is perfectly visible & if you need something artificial to remind you or even make you aware of it then you shouldn't be driving.

AFAIK iphones can't multitask so you couldn't have TomTom running in the background to give route directions.

the new Iphone 4.0 OS thats out in June has multitasking for the 3GS.

There was something like this out for android for about 6 months, it wasn't actually useful so i deleted it.

Bit stupid in the current form. But it does show that HUD technology for mainstream cars is not too far away at all.
